Intimidation

Late on Sunday night the following post appeared on Facebook:

AR redacted 31 July16 - Copy

The same individual sent two threatening text messages in the early hours of Monday morning, one of which stated, “We now have your address….”

We (yes, Mr Richardson, there are a number of us who contribute to this blog) have taken legal advice and if any of our team receives any further intimidation or harassment, either from Mr Richardson or anyone else associated with the game-shooting industry, legal action will be taken. That will include a report to the Police as well as civil action.

We take great care on this blog not to publish anything that isn’t factual and we make a point of citing our sources. Of course, anybody can challenge our views and are welcome to do so here, unless that challenge includes defamatory or grossly offensive material or personal information. Anybody looking through the comments section of this blog will see how often we moderate comments to ensure these rules apply.

Intimidation and harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

I don’t always agree with RPS, but long may you continue shining the light where it is needed. This kind of intimidation is shameful, as is the abuse Chris Packham receives for being open with his opinions.

Yes, inspired me to order some Hen Harrier brew online (excellent service and really good bottle opener!) although we don’t drink ale one of our friends is going to be lucky.

I hope you have reported him to FB. Intimidation is the last resort of those who know they are in the wrong.

“Intimidation is the last resort of those who know they are in the wrong”

That was my thought too. Whilst it must be deeply upsetting to be the recipient of such vile and obnoxious threats, there is at least the satisfaction of knowing that it is a sign that these disgusting idiots are losing the argument and they know it.

  6. August 4, 2016 at 5:20 pm

To say that I am appalled does not come close to reflecting my disgust at this blatant attempt to intimidate. I cannot say, however, that I am at all surprised either by the attempt or its source. Having attempted to intimidate first Chris Packham and then Bowland Brewery, that there should be a move against the individuals behind this excellent blog is par for the course.

The same man blocked me from his page for no apparent reason other than he does not like to be contradicted in a civil manner. The loss of his presence from FB can only be for the good. Lets hope the police deal with him in the same manner that they would anyone else involved in a campaign to d harass others i.e. he should be prosecuted.

I am sure the he and some of his comrades will regret some of the statements that have been recorded by screen shot. You cant delete stuff from the internet thats why you should behave and only deal in facts.

I don’t think fascists regard themselves as comrades, do they? Would it not be appropriate for RPUK to report the threat implicit in “We now have your address” to the police right away, rather than give this idiot a second chance?

This sort of activity, trolling, intimidation etc is unlawful, report it straight to the police; I wouldn’t waste time reporting it to facebook who seem to revel in violence and gun culture but are traumatised by the sight of a bare breast.

Almost certainly why the likes of this dude hate them so much. If it were me running this site, with my big gub and combative attitude then they’d have no trouble challenging whatever I said. RPS(UK) being so strict and utterly careful has made them a hard group to fight or denigrate.

I’m not surprised this has happen, given the endless flow of crime that has been exposed on this site, with the result that those involved or associated with criminality in the countryside have become more and more desperate to prolong their illegal, immoral, and evil ways.

    ‘Revocation of firearm certificates.

(1)A firearm certificate may be revoked by the chief officer of police for the area in which the holder resides on any of the grounds mentioned in subsections (2) to (5) below.

(2)The certificate may be revoked if the chief officer of police has reason to believe—

(a)that the holder is of intemperate habits or unsound mind or is otherwise unfitted to be entrusted with a firearm;’

  17. 28 Doug Malpus
    August 4, 2016 at 6:07 pm

I am sure that circumstances, where a person threatens violence and hold a firearms certificate, should be taken very seriously by the police.

In my opinion they are unfit to hold a firearm, what ever they wish to use it for, on account of a demonstrated mental instability.

The police need to know and if they fail to act they are being negligent or worse.

  21. August 4, 2016 at 6:37 pm

I know exactly how this feels. I’m one of two prime witnesses in a hunting case which made all the national news media and is currently on-going. I’ve had pro hunt thugs locate me and ring me up with threats. The police were fairly helpful although ultimately wouldn’t take it any further. I’ve never credited these morons with a whole lot of intelligence, of course in the eyes of the law I’m now untouchable, any further contact will mean the boys in blue knocking on some doors for witness intimidation.

I treat these threats as a compliment. It means you’re doing something right and they consider you a threat to their pathetic lifestyle. I suggest you do the same.

Well done, keep up the good work.

  27. 42 John Smith
    August 4, 2016 at 7:47 pm

There are a lot of things that this site publish, that I don’t agree with.
I have been a Gamekeeper for nearly 30yrs and I like all your mbers deplore wildlife crime and strive to have these practises ended. I do not agree in bans and it is certainly not the case that all Gamekeepers act in this way.
Andy’s actions are deplorable ! I don’t want to be done for slander but as far as I understand he does not hold a firearms certificate and is not supported or act as part of the SGA, BASC, SACS etc.
He is a bully and I have made a point of letting him and all the shooting organisations know this. He is not a popular man within the shooting world.
He does nothing for the shooting world and has only a couple of supporters ( who are equal bullish on social media) he does nothing for shooting and I dread to think that anyone out with the shooting world , think that this is the type of individual that is typical

    • 43 Nimby
      August 4, 2016 at 7:58 pm

John Smith….. It is quite likely that the general public will, rightly or wrongly, see AR as ‘typical’ of the shooting fraternity, and whilst there exists that kind of approach then it serves to damage shooting in general.

The solution is not with his opponents (beyond reporting him to the police et. al.) but with you / the shooters, i.e. those promoting the ‘sport’ and all its associated issues ( water quality, illegal raptor persecution etc.) as a legitimate land use deserved in many situations of public funding?

    • 44 S TUCKER
      August 4, 2016 at 8:24 pm

Unfortunately Mr Smith, the reactions of the shooting industry’s associated “professional” bodies tend to be more of the Andy Richardson school of comment than your own.

As for the call for a ban: this is the only country with driven grouse shooting, rather than walk up and it is this which we seek to ban, as it underpins a huge amount of the illegal persecution of birds of prey, plus is environmentally damaging to an extreme degree.

    • August 4, 2016 at 8:47 pm

      Hi John

Thanks for being so honest. I’ve worked with good keepers before in conservation and still do. We’ve discussed the antics of this individual at length and whilst I am not going to delve into the pros and cons of shooting and the different types, I will add they are all against what he is doing for them. Some have me monitor raptors breeding above their pens because they fully understand for what they take, in their own words “they keep every other bastard threat away”

Like in all walks of life we have the good and bad, but this individual is doing a great deal of harm to the positive side of things. I’ll be honest I am against driven grouse shooting and the mismanagement of moorland by anyone.

Thank you for what you are doing to support conservation and good luck.

John, I’ve just had a look at Richardson’s Facebook friends, and he has many of the huntin, shootin’ and fishin’ set as friends, including Bert Burnett, a representative of the SGA.

Sadly, in my experience, Richardson is very typical of the hunting/shooting type – a cowardly, sociopathic liar – and this very evening he has continued with his misogynistic behaviour on his other Facebook page by issuing insults to Dr Ruth Tingay.

Perhaps as a result of sociopathic traits, he believes that he is “grinding us down”, completely oblivious to the fact that his actions are turning people against his industry, thereby making us stronger.

      70,000 signatures and rising!

  28. August 4, 2016 at 8:11 pm

    Evening.

This bloke and his friends are a nasty piece of work. They’ll target an individuals FB profile and download public images that you might hold and then manipulate them and use them against you or your cause. Anything they can do they will.

I’ve watched them target young women who are conservationists and have made it clear that they don’t stand for culls of certain species. You also can’t get any lower than the clear targetting of a woman there as well.

    A clear misogynist.

But it’s not just that. Packham has been open about his mental health issues and good on him. But they have a go at that. Then they dig at Mark Avery and his weight. What they do is go for the person and not for the science. Why? Because science isn’t backing-up their methods of land management. What they are doing to other good keepers is just dreadful.

    Keep up the good work.

  29. August 4, 2016 at 8:33 pm

Why not publish a premium rate number as the contact number. So when they do call you are making money. Then let him fill his boots as him and his friends pay in more ways than one. Just an idea. It cost nothing or a very small amount to set on up.

  30. 50 Jimmy
    August 4, 2016 at 8:35 pm

Just goes to show the nasty elements behind this industry. These type of people need to be made examples of by the law

  31. August 4, 2016 at 9:28 pm

Someone i know was delivering leaflets around the Forest of Bowland which generated quite a lot of annoyed Twitter and Facebook comments.
One gentleman threatened ‘I hope they come round here jack il slip my gsd on em what a crock of shit’
    ‘gsd’ means gemna shepherd dog.
For some reason the leaflet distributor didn’t want to involve the police.

I just did a search for him to see if he is a gamekeeper but his Facebook page has been removed, so presumably someone reported him

  32. 53 Gerard
    August 4, 2016 at 9:34 pm

    To whom it may concern.

I am deeply concerned about intimidation and threats from someone who is likely to hold a firearms licence, against one of the owners of a specific website which deals with the persecution of birds of prey in the UK. Would it be normal to issue a gun licence to someone who harasses and publicly rallies others to harass and threaten another based on their beliefs? The person in question is known online as Andrew Richardson and details of the harassment can be found at https://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/2016/08/04/intimidation/. I hope you take whatever action is appropriate in this instance.

    Yours sincerely

  34. 55 Marco McGinty
    August 4, 2016 at 10:09 pm

I mentioned it on a previous post, that Richardson was acting like the typical coward, and this only adds support to that theory. Bullying and intimidating from afar, from the safety of his computer, you would have to wonder how far his tactics go. Does it stop at misogyny, or does his cowardly bullying extend to race and religion?

  35. August 4, 2016 at 10:28 pm

We have pretty much the same experience of this man. First he trolls our published research and so I offer to meet up with him in a local pub when I find out that he’s down in our neck of the woods on a fishing trip. Face to face, he’s actually quite pleasant on first meeting, but then I’m the one on home turf and I’m also a tad bigger and fitter than him so he was probably on best behaviour. I listen to what he has to say, letting him do most of the talking as I try to figure out what makes him tick, but when after a few pints I go to the loo I return to find my wife giving him a hard time! A few days later and he’s on facebook describing the meeting and our opinions as naive. It wasn’t until my 17yr old son joins the online discussion with Andy and his cronies that things turn nasty. I went to bed after a “robust” and entertaining exchange on conservation grazing but my son stays online responding with careful, well-informed and nuanced replies to Andy’s escalating invective. Now my son is an infuriating little so and so, I’ll be the first to admit that (he is after all his father’s son) and he won’t let Andy and his mates off the hook lightly and keeps coming back at them. Anyway, suffice to say that come midnight Andy is threatening physical violence and so my son logs off. I find this all out in the morning from my facebook email notifications (I’ve got them all safely stored) and find a facebook pm from Andy saying “…get your w***ker son sorted or I will get police involved…!” followed by “Get the wee f**k sorted or I will inform the police…!” Nice, and ironic given that he was the one threatening violence to a schoolboy. Alas, he’s now blocked us both on facebook and twitter. Shame really as I do miss him in a perverse kind of way.

From people announcing to the whole world when they are on holiday and their house is unoccupied, to cyber bullying ( mainly, but not solely, amongst youngsters ), to this sort of blatant intimidation/personal abuse and all kinds of bad things in between. I continue to be amazed that anybody still considers social media to have any place in society. Much like ” I ” products and the tattooing epidemic, the majority of people lose all sense of reason and turn into sheep.

    • 60 HF
      August 5, 2016 at 6:08 am

But if it wasn’t for social media, RPUK and Mark Avery wouldn’t be doing such a tremendous job of highlighting the driven grouse industry issues and gathering momentum for change.

Social media does have it’s problems, I agree, but it can be a tremendous force for good too.

Well played RPS. You are, literally, essential reading for anyone with any interest in the persecution of birds of prey in Britain and that, I guess, will include the persecutors.

I can’t prove anything, but earlier this year following some debate with Mr Richardson and some of his cronies on another site, my Facebook profile was hacked and my “friends” all received an extreme pornographic movie purporting to have been circulated by myself. Probably just a coincidence?

Funny you should say that something similar happened with a pro-conservation fb page. Ah-the delightful Richardson again. He sent me tweets of a couple of dead deer & a shotgun balanced on them and his dog (blood smeared) along with a promise to ‘send you smashed fox photos later’.
As to his status amongst the pro bloodsports lobby, he appears to be Twitter ‘friends’ with many of the main players and I’ve seen tweets between him and Tim Bonner-CEO of the Countryside Alliance.

  45. 70 Will O the Wisp

There is no excuse for intimidation or bullying behaviour and I do feel that the man discussed is stalking human prey just as he would stalk a deer during the shooting season. He derives amusement from his threats and I would question his mental state to prevent escalation.

It would appear that there are few boundaries on certain shooting estates, gamekeepers are given carte blanche to do what they want and sadly, the police can be reluctant to intervene when the law is broken.

The Ground Game Act (1890) has barely been changed for 125 years and I feel we ought to petition for reform. It is worth looking at this Act (sorry, I am unable to post a link) as there are few, if any, boundaries regarding shooting. Compound this with a certain type of mentality and you have a potentially difficult situation for animal and human. Modern shotguns/ rifles are very powerful yet there are no minimum distances set for shooting near homes or livestock. Imagine if a group of guns were discharged outside an urban home?

In my experience, there are sly types of bullying and harassment, eg shots fired just above your head, shots fired towards the home, cats killed or shot…..I could write a long list. I will add that certain Police Scotland staff appear to side strongly with these gamekeepers therefore the law is rarely observed and the gamekeeper arrogantly believes he is legally invincible.

The Judiciary/ Police must also be held to account and asked to register if they shoot, hold a gun licence or have attended an organised shoot/ are part of a shooting syndicate, in the past ten years. Transparacy is vital.
Complete reform of the Ground Game Act 1890 please.

Just to register my wholehearted support for Raptor Persecution UK and to add that, as well as reporting this pathetic little man to the authorities for his unhinged public utterances, he could also be reported to Twitter for any abusive comments he makes there. I think the most appropriate category is ‘targeted harassment’. This is simply a case of selecting any offensive and threatening tweets, clicking ‘Report’, then following the instructions.

    Keep going, guys.
